Electricity doesn't simply appear when you flip a switch. Behind every light that turns on and every appliance that powers up is a team of electric cooperatives working together to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.
At Lake Region Electric Cooperative, we are proud to be part of a unique three-tier cooperative system. Each cooperative has a specialized role, and together we ensure that electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered efficiently to the homes and businesses we serve.
Generation: Associated Electric Cooperative
The first step begins with Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI), our generation and transmission cooperative. AECI is responsible for generating and securing the electricity needed to serve millions of cooperative members across the region. Through a diverse portfolio of generation resources and long-term planning, AECI helps ensure a reliable supply of power is available when our members need it.
Transmission: KAMO Power
Once electricity is generated, it must travel across hundreds of miles to reach local communities. That's where KAMO Power comes in.
KAMO owns and maintains the high-voltage transmission system that moves electricity from generation facilities to local substations throughout eastern Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. This critical infrastructure serves as the bridge between power generation and local electric distribution.
Distribution: Lake Region Electric Cooperative
The final step is where Lake Region Electric Cooperative takes over.
From our substations, Lake Region Electric delivers electricity across thousands of miles of distribution line to the homes, farms, schools, and businesses throughout our service area. Our crews maintain local power lines, restore service during outages, build new infrastructure, and provide the local service our members depend on every day.
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, we are owned by the members we serve. That means every decision we make is guided by our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service while investing in the communities we call home.
