Keeping the Lines Clear: Why Vegetation Management Matters
Trees and power lines don’t always make good neighbors. That’s why vegetation management is an important part of keeping Lake Region Electric Cooperative’s system safe and reliable. Regular tree trimming and right-of-way maintenance help keep trees, limbs and overgrown vegetation away from power lines and electrical equipment. Maintaining proper clearance can reduce the risk of unplanned outages, equipment damage and safety hazards while helping our crews safely access the electric system when repairs are needed.
Just a few weeks ago, Mother Nature provided a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Severe weather caused extensive tree damage across Lake Region’s service territory. Trees and limbs fell into power lines, damaged poles and equipment, blocked access to damaged areas and made restoration more difficult. Severe weather can bring trees down in a matter of seconds. While vegetation management cannot prevent every tree-related outage, proper maintenance can reduce the risks and lessen the impact when storms move through our area.

Our members can help us keep an eye on vegetation throughout our service territory. If you notice trees or brush growing into or too close to Lake Region power lines or electrical equipment, submit a Tree Work Request through our website. Our Right-of-Way team will review the area and determine what work may be needed.
