Lake Region Electric Cooperative was honored to take part in the After-School Lights On Literacy event, hosted by Grand View School and the Boys & Girls Club of Tahlequah. The event brought students together for an afternoon of reading, learning, and fun. LREC Lineman Trent Elliott read Cat and Duck Electric Safety, written and illustrated by Patrick Wood, to the students. Beyond reading, Trent took time to teach students important safety tips, including what to do if they ever encounter a downed power line.

Help your teen stay safe behind the wheel — and around electricity. If they’re in an accident involving a power pole: ✅ Stay in the vehicle and call 911. ✅ Warn others to stay at least 50 feet away. ✅ Remember — power lines don’t have to spark or move to be dangerous. Always assume they’re energized.
